Short answer
Alief had 15,441 owner-occupied homes in the 2016-2020 Census estimates, and about two-thirds of its housing was built between 1970 and 1989. Garage doors of that age are usually on their second or third set of springs, so spring, roller and opener repairs, plus replacement doors, are the common calls there.
What garage doors deal with in Alief
Alief grew fast in the 1970s and 1980s: of its roughly 37,500 homes counted in the 2011-2015 Census estimates, 14,924 were built in the 1970s and another 10,632 in the 1980s. Doors from that era were often lighter, uninsulated steel or hardboard, many of them hung on extension springs along the side tracks rather than a torsion spring above the opening.
Forty or fifty years on, most of those doors have been repaired more than once. The calls we take in Alief are mostly springs that have lost their tension, frayed cables and worn rollers, and openers that finally gave out after years of lifting an unbalanced door. Extension-spring doors without safety cables are common, and fitting those cables is the first thing we do on any side-spring door we touch.
When a door is past repairing, many Alief owners move to an insulated steel door with a torsion spring, which runs quieter and keeps the garage cooler in summer.

How visits work in Alief
Alief calls are scheduled from our Theall Road service office, south along Beltway 8, on the same phone line as the rest of Houston, any hour.
On older doors we check the springs, cables, rollers and brackets together and price them as one job, so a second failure does not follow the first.

Look along the side tracks. Springs running beside the tracks are extension springs; a spring on a shaft above the door is torsion.
On heavier doors it often makes sense. On a light door in good shape, new extension springs with safety cables are a sound repair.
If the sections are straight and rust-free, usually yes. We price a replacement alongside when they are not.
